SCHULTZ: "RESULT WON'T KNOCK US OFF TRACK"

It was an unaccustomed feeling for the Boys in Brown when they trudged off the pitch following their first defeat since late January against SC Paderborn. Afterwards, head coach Timo Schultz reflected on a deserved 2-0 victory for the visitors.

Head coach Timo Schultz: "It was a racy second-division encounter that went from end to end. All in all, it was a deserved victory for Paderborn. They made the better start and went in front as a result. They switched the play really well there to score. We knew about that beforehand, but still, you can't stop it every time. Paderborn were mentally sharper than us in the first half, but we fought our way into it really well as the first half wore on and had three or four shots, but nothing really clear-cut. Although we ended up having more attempts on goal, Paderborn had the better chances and they caused us problems, especially on the break. After the second goal, we were unable to mount enough pressure to force the ball in. Either Paderborn defended well when we did create chances or we put paid to them ourselves with a bad touch or poor finish. We didn't score today and in the end I never really felt we would squeeze one in. You get games like that. And we weren't assuming we'd win every game this season. The result won't throw us off track. On the contrary, we'll draw the right conclusions from it and start from scratch again against Osnabrück."

Omar Marmoush: "Paderborn defended very well from the outset today, so it took us a while to get going. We battled well but didn't take our chances unfortunately. Sometimes you take the wrong decisions, that's part of the game. Today, we didn't do enough. We have to draw a line under the game, keep going and do better in the next one. We want to put in a performance again and get another three points."

Steffen Baumgart (SC Paderborn 07): "We're delighted with the win and the three points. It was important for us just to get back on track. We saw a very good game today with two teams who played attractive attacking football and tried to get forward at every opportunity. We had a good grip on things from the off and created the first few chances as a result. We defended very well against St. Pauli's set pieces in the first half, which we haven't always done recently. We went in a goal up but we knew it would be tough. We had one or two chances on the break that we didn't make the most of and were glad to get the second. It would have been tight again at the end if we hadn't."

Sebastian Schonlau (SC Paderborn 07): "We finally managed to keep our focus and concentration for 90 minutes. I'm delighted to have scored again and helped the team. It wasn't the firmest of headers, so I thought he would get it. But the ball bounced awkwardly as you saw. That worked in my favour, of course, and I'm glad it did."
