BOYS IN BROWN DRAW 1-1 IN BIELEFELD FRIENDLY

A decent performance from a rejigged FC St. Pauli side earned them a 1-1 draw in Thursday afternoon's friendly at Bundesliga outfit Arminia Bielefeld. Lukas Daschner fired the Boys in Brown in front after just two minutes, only for Andreas Voglsammer to reply in kind on 18.
The international break offered the players who have not had much playing time recently an opportunity to gain some valuable match practice and stake a claim for more minutes in the remaining league fixtures. And they certainly hit the ground running, as a fine attacking move in the second minute ended with Igor Matanovic teeing up Lukas Daschner, who slotted home to give the Schultz XI an early lead.
It was the perfect start, but in an entertaining encounter Arminia hit back in the 18th minute. After a move involving several players, the ball found its way to Andreas Voglsammer, who got the better of stand-in keeper Dennis Smarsch to level the scores. Timo Schultz's team did not let the setback affect them, however, and they continued to knock the ball round nicely. Nevertheless, the better chances fell to the home side, who went close with two headers from Sergio Cordova and Marcel Hartel before the interval.
After the restart, the two sides cancelled each other out for long periods. The first decent opportunity came the way of the Schultz XI on 56, but this time Arminia custodian Nikolai Rehnen was not to be beaten by goalscorer Daschner. Academy players Hugo Teixeira and Serkan Dursun (Under-23s) and Franz Roggow (Under-19s) were given a runout in the closing stages, but they were unable to prevent a game low in chances in the second half from ending all square.
