Coordes pens contract extension

FC St. Pauli have completed another part of their squad planning for the 2020-21 planning after director of sport Andreas Bornemann reached agreement with Luis Coordes over an extension of his recently expired contract until 30 June 2022.

Coordes joined the club academy from MTV Treubund Lüneburg in 2016. In his debut year he played under head coach Timo Schultz, who was then in charge of the Under-17s, before signing professional terms ahead of the 2018-19 season. The attacking wide player was handed his senior debut against VfL Bochum in 2019 and has made 13 league appearances so far.

Reaction to the new deal

Director of sport Andreas Bornemann:
"Luis has gained some initial experience in the first team and demonstrated that he has the quality to establish himself in Bundesliga 2. We believe he has the potential to go a lot further, however, and so are looking forward to seeing how he progresses."

Head coach Timo Schultz: "I've known Luis since he joined St. Pauli as a youth player. His biggest strength is his pace and the task now is to equip him with the tools to use it effectively. My expectation is for him is to exploit his ability in attacking one-on-one situations to the full and pose a much greater threat on goal. If he does that, he'll give us a lot of pleasure in the next few years."

Luis Coordes: "I'm delighted to take the next step in my development at the club where I signed my first professional contract. I'm convinced that it's the right path for me and that I can help the team. I know what the coach expects of me and I'll work hard to advance as well as possible."
