STÖVER NEW DIRECTOR OF SPORT

FC St. Pauli have made another key personnel decision on the footballing side, appointing Uwe Stöver as the club's new director of sport. Club officials have agreed a long-term deal with the 50-year-old, who will commence his duties on 1 October.

"In Uwe Stöver we're very happy to have recruited a recognised expert who knows the second division very well," said club president Oke Göttlich. "As our squad is already complete, Uwe will start his job with us on 1 October. That leaves enough time for Andreas Rettig to do a proper handover. Uwe has already been given an insight into everything that's happening and held initial talks with board members and officials on the footballing side. Uwe is an excellent fit for our needs. When our league status was clear and we were able to step up our search for a new director of sport, we approached Uwe as soon as it became apparent that he and FC Kaiserslautern were parting company in order to win him over to our journey and our club."

Uwe Stöver is approaching his new job full of expectation. "I'm really looking forward to this unique and fantastic club and hope to be able to do my bit for a successful future. I'll make intensive use of the time to 1 October to get an idea of the club, the team and the league."

Stöver has previous experience in similar roles at FC Kaiserslautern, Holstein Kiel, FSV Frankfurt and SV Wehen Wiesbaden. As a player he made 115 first and second division appearances for Bayer Leverkusen, VfL Bochum and Mainz 05, and has also worked as a youth coach for FC Kaiserslautern and Mainz 05.
