Østigård arrives on 12-month loan deal

The Boys in Brown have strengthened in central defence with the signing of Norway Under-20 international Leo Østigård on a 12-month loan deal from Premier League outfit Brighton & Hove Albion.

"We're delighted that Leo will run out for FC St. Pauli next season”, said director of sport Andreas Bornemann. “He gives us more options in the key position in central defence."

Head coach Jos Luhukay also expressed his satisfaction with the deal, saying: “Leo has made a very good impression in the first two days. He quickly won us over with his manner and the way he plays football. He’s very mature for a 19-year-old and has the necessary composure on the ball. His positional play is good and he’s also good in the air, so it was only logical to take him on loan. I look forward to working with him.”

“When the opportunity to play for FC St. Pauli first came up, I wrote to Mats Møller Dæhli straightaway,” said Østigård. “Mats had only good things to say and my first impressions during my trial confirmed that. I'm happy the loan worked out and I'm now a part of FC St. Pauli and can play in front of these fantastic fans.”

Østigård made 12 appearances for Brighton & Hove Albion’s Under-23 side last season, scoring two goals. He will wear the No3 shirt for the Boys in Brown.
