Mathias Hain extends St. Pauli stay

Another personnel decision has been finalised after Mathias Hain and director of sport Andreas Bornemann reached an agreement to extend the goalkeeper coach's contract, which expired at the end of last season, until 30 June 2022.

Hain, 47, joined St. Pauli as a player at the start of the 2008-09 season and went on to make 72 competitive appearances for the club. After hanging up his boots at the end of the 2010-11 campaign, he switched sides and has worked as goalkeeper coach to the senior squad ever since.

What they said

Director of sport Andreas Bornemann: "Matze Hain has just about seen it all in his time at FC St. Pauli. He knows the club and the second division very well and with his experience is an important voice both on the touchline and in the dressing room."

Head coach Timo Schultz: "It's no secret that Matze and I get on very well and so I'm delighted to have him extend his stay on the team, of course. The key reasons for the decision, however, are his professional expertise and passion for the job and the club."

Goalkeeper coach Mathias Hain: "Schulle and I have known each other for ages but I was quick to tell him I understood he had to openly consider the makeup of his coaching team and with that my position, too, so I'm all the more delighted we can continue our journey together and are sure to have a lot of fun along the way."
